Heat exchange tubes are a key component to shell and tube heat exchangers, and most of the heat exchangers currently use metal alloy tubes. The heat conductivity of alloy tubes is good, but the heat resistance and corrosion resistance are poor, the working temperature is low, so the service life is short, especially in the petrochemical and printing and dyeing industries where the acidity and alkalinity are strong. In order to improve corrosion resistance, a PTFE-lined heat exchanger has been developed, but its thermal conductivity is low, its high temperature resistance is poor, and the use temperature cannot be higher than 250 °C.
Silicon carbide has excellent high temperature and corrosion resistance. It can work in hot gas and liquid environments, oxidizing and corrosive atmospheres and strong acids and alkalis for a long time even at higher temperatures; the thermal conductivity is as high as 120-180 W/mK, about twice the tantalum, 5 times that of stainless steel, and 50 times that of polytetrafluoroethylene, which makes it excellent heat transfer efficiency as a heat exchange tube; in addition, even if the wall thickness is only 1.5- 2.0 mm, silicon carbide heat exchange tubes also have high strength and can withstand the mechanical and thermal environmental conditions under operating conditions.
