Introduction

Pure aluminum oxide is known as a wear resistant protective coating that also has excellent electrical insulating properties. Aluminum oxide is often combined with titanium oxide. The most common combinations are 97/3, 87/13, 60/40. The addition of titanium oxide reduces the coating brittleness, but consequently, the hardness and electrical insulating properties are reduced. Combinations with other oxides is also available as per clients’ request.

Properties

  • Good abrasion, sliding wear and friction resistance
  • Application range pure Al2O3 is up to 1600 ºC, with 40% TiO2 up to approx. 550 ºC
  • Pure Al2O3 is sensitive to shock and impact. The ductility increases with TiO2 content increases
  • Pure Al2O3 is not conductive and suitable for electrical insulating coatings. With increasing TiO2 content, the conductivity increases
  • Resistant to many acids and bases
  • Decreasing hardness with increasing TiO2 content

Applications

  • Wear resistant coatings in textile and synthetic fiber industry.
  • Electrical insulating coatings of pure Al2O3
  • Chemical Industry
  • Household applications, pans, etc.
